Phone Map –
Privacy Policy · Last updated: 25 September 2026 · English version below
यह नीति Phone Map पर लागू होती है – Android app (Google Play पर "Phone Map भू नक्शा - Land Map") और वेबसाइट phonemap.in।
1. Phone Map
Phone Map – Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 September 2026
This policy applies to Phone Map – the Android app (listed on Google Play as "Phone Map भू नक्शा - Land Map") and the website phonemap.in. It explains what information Phone Map collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and how you can have it deleted.
1. About Phone Map
Phone Map is an independent, privately developed app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing any government department, organisation or portal. Land information shown in the app (maps, plot/khasra numbers, areas, recorded owners) is compiled from publicly available government land records for informational purposes only; for any legal, financial or official purpose, only documents issued by the competent authority are valid.
2. Data we collect and why
- Location. Phone Map accesses your location only when you tap a location button, and only while the app is open – never in the background.
- "📍 Find my plot": your coordinates are sent to the Phone Map server to find your village and plot. For this the server sends the same coordinates, without any name, number or identifier, to the BhuNaksha land-records portal of the state government, and to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service to look up the village name. To answer faster next time, the server keeps an anonymous "approximate place (about 100 m) → village name" lookup that is not linked to any person.
- Weather: approximate coordinates of the district you choose, or of your location if you tap 📍, are sent to Open-Meteo for the forecast – through the Phone Map server, or directly from the app if the server cannot be reached. The server caches the forecast for about 30 minutes per ~1 km area (not linked to any person); your last weather place is stored only on your device.
- "🚶 Walk to measure": while you measure a field by walking, GPS is used only on your device; your track is not sent anywhere.
- Land market listings. If you post a listing, what you enter – title, land details (district, tehsil, village, khasra, area, price, the location of the plot chosen on the map) and your mobile number – is stored on our server and shown to all users of the app so that buyers can contact you. There is no name field; anything you write in the title or description is public. A random code stored on your device lets you delete the listing from the same device at any time. When someone reports a listing, only the reason and time are stored, not the identity of the reporter.
- Data kept on your device. Saved plots, recent villages, the selected state, measurements you draw on the map, your saved custom maps and your last weather place are stored on your device (local storage). If you do not sign in, they are not sent to the Phone Map server and nobody else can see them. Custom map PDF / photo / KML files are written to your phone's Documents/Phone Map folder and are shared only when you choose to.
- Sign-in / account (optional) – with Google or with email + password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google (no photo, contacts, Gmail or anything else). If you create an account with email, we store your email, (optionally) your name and your password – never in plain text, only a one-way hash (scrypt) from which the password cannot be recovered. Your saved custom maps, drawn measurements and saved plots are then also stored in your account on the Phone Map server, so they come back when you reinstall the app or sign in on another phone with the same Google account. This data is visible only to you; it is not sold, shown to others or used for advertising. A secret sign-in token is kept on your device to keep you signed in.
- KML / KMZ files. Plot and village files are created on your device and you decide where to save or share them. If you open a KML file, it is only displayed on the map on your device and is not uploaded.
- Mandi prices, schemes, crop guide. This is public information; no personal data of yours is sent for it. Mandi prices are fetched by our server from Agmarknet / data.gov.in, and the crop-guide photos (Wikimedia Commons, free licences) are bundled inside the app.
- Technical logs. Our server and hosting provider keep standard request logs (IP address, time, requested URL – which may include the coordinates sent by a location button) for security and troubleshooting, normally for up to 30 days. To prevent abuse and spam, the server counts requests per IP address in memory only; this is not written to disk. To decide which villages to align with the satellite first, the server counts how often each village map is opened – only the village and the number, nothing that identifies you.
An account (sign-in) is optional – every feature works without one. We never ask for ID documents. The app shows no ads and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
3. App permissions
- Location (precise and approximate): for the three features above, only while the app is open. If you deny it, the app still works – you can choose your village from the lists.
- Internet: to load maps, plot details, weather and mandi prices.
Phone Map does not read your contacts, camera, microphone, SMS, call log or photos; a file on your phone is opened only when you choose it yourself.
4. Third-party services
- State BhuNaksha land-records portal (Revenue Department / NIC): our server fetches maps and plot details from it; when you tap 📍, your coordinates (without identity) are sent to it as described above.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim (place names) and Open-Meteo (weather): only coordinates are sent, never your name or number.
- Satellite and street map tiles are loaded directly on your device from Esri World Imagery and OpenStreetMap; these providers see your IP address and the map area being viewed.
- The Phone Map server runs at a hosting provider (Hostinger), which stores this data on our behalf.
- WhatsApp, Google Maps and phone-call buttons open those apps on your device; their own policies apply there.
- Government portals (Apna Khata, Girdawari, BhuNaksha and the other official links on the "Sources" page) open in Chrome / your browser, showing their real web address. Anything you enter there (OTP, captcha, name, mobile) goes directly to the government website, not to Phone Map, and the policies of the government apply there. Phone Map does not fill anything in those websites automatically and is not part of them.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone other than as described above, unless required by law.
5. Data security
All data between the app and the Phone Map server travels over HTTPS (encrypted in transit). Access to data stored on the server is limited to the people who run Phone Map, and we keep only the data needed for the features described above.
6. Data retention and deletion
- Listings: kept until you delete them, or until we remove them for breaking the rules or after user reports. Deleting a listing removes it from the server.
- Server and hosting logs: normally kept for up to 30 days.
- Anonymous place-name lookup and weather cache: not linked to any person; they contain no identity.
- Account (Google or email sign-in): (step by step: Delete account) in the app or on the website, Settings → Account → "Delete account" immediately and permanently deletes your name, email, password hash and all data stored in your account from the Phone Map server (the copy on your phone stays with you). Without the app, sign in with the same Google account at phonemap.in → Settings and delete it there, or write to support@phonemap.in. Signing out does not delete data; sign-ins expire automatically after one year without use.
- Data on your device: erased completely when you uninstall the app or use Android Settings → Apps → Phone Map → Storage → Clear data.
- Deletion requests: if you no longer have the device you posted a listing from, or want any other data deleted, write to support@phonemap.in (mention the listing title and mobile number). We normally delete it within 30 days.
7. Owner names from public land records
Owner (khatedar) names shown on a plot come from the public BhuNaksha land records of the state government. Phone Map shows them only as part of the details of that plot (and, when you ask, in the plot or village KML/KMZ file) and never uses them for advertising, contact or sale. Only the Revenue Department can correct the records; for any objection about how they appear in Phone Map, write to support@phonemap.in.
8. Children
Phone Map is not intended for users under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Contact and changes
Questions about your data, deletion requests or complaints: support@phonemap.in. If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date will change.
